Devolver Digital's Cult of the Lamb was an instant hit when it was released in August 2022, swiftly earning positive reviews from critics and many thousands of gamers. Essentially two games in one, Cult of the Lamb channels the visceral action roguelike combat of Hades before players come home to manage their adorable cult members during the colony management-style portion of the game. The whole thing is wrapped up in a cute yet dark aesthetic, and the satisfying mix of gameplay styles is well-balanced. Since the game's release, developer Massive Monster has remained committed to bringing new content and updates to improve everything further.
As the first major content update for Cult of the Lamb, Relics of the Old Faith is shaping up to be a massive improvement to an already solid title. Cult of the Lamb recently detailed four of the new buildings arriving in the update, the Kitchen, Shared Shelter, Crypt, and Farm Plot Sign. Cooks can be assigned to the Kitchen where up to 30 meals can be queued, so the cult leader no longer has to spend so much time cooking for everyone. The Shared Shelter houses three followers and never collapses, another headache relieved. The Crypt is an upgradeable structure that contains multiple dead followers, which frees up tons of space previously reserved for graveyards. Lastly, the Farm Plot Sign designates farm plots for specific plots and helps keep everything nicely organized.
Yet the feedback loop sees your actions in the settlement having a direct impact on your progress in the dungeons. The levelling system is, quite frankly, genius. The fundamental idea is that the bigger and happier your cult is, the faster you can harvest their Devotion (primarily by holding a sermon once a day), which works as XP. This in turn either directly or indirectly unlocks weapons, perks, and abilities for the dungeons; and blueprints for decoration and functional buildings for your cult.
One week ago today, an unusual little video game called Cult Of The Lamb was released for several gaming platforms, and it immediately soared to the top of the sales charts. One million copies already sold across all platforms, and, well, it seems to be developing a cult following of its own.
WELDON: It's very sweet, very sunny - at least on the surface - because your job is to get your followers to worship you, and you do that by keeping them happy. They need to eat. You build them a farm. They need to sleep. You build them shelter. They need to poop. You build them outhouses. You want to start building outhouses right away because that's very important. If you don't, they're going to poop all over the place, and then they're going to get sick. So the more stuff you do for them, the higher their faith in you rises, which gives you the power you need to go out and do your cult leader stuff, like going out into the world and gathering more followers and slaughtering other cults. It's just adorably sinister, this game - think Animal Crossing meets "Helter Skelter."
WELDON: Well, it certainly can be. It doesn't have to be, though, because it gives you a lot of choices about what kind of cult you build - what kind of cult leader you become. Now, you could be the kind who sacrifices your followers and brainwashes them with magic mushrooms. And that'll give you a quick faith boost, sure, but it's got long-term repercussions because your followers are individuals, and some of them are going to be horrified that you sacrificed their little piggy friend, and a mushroom trip is going to leave them exhausted. And if you don't do anything about that, they're going to turn on you and start sowing dissent among your flock.
On the other hand, you could be the kind of cult leader who keeps your followers faithful by offering them little blessings or hearing their confessions. Now, the more you play, the more the line separating cult from organized religion becomes a distinction without a meaningful difference. So - now, one thing that giving you so many choices does, of course, is open up the game's replay value because, once you finish, you just go back and play as an entirely different kind of cult leader.
WELDON: Yeah, the other half is dungeon crawling. To get more followers and to get the resources you need to keep them happy, you're going to have to leave your compound every so often - go out into the world. The game generates a series of short, random dungeons for you to make your way through and gives you weapons to take down your enemies. And then, ultimately, you'll meet rival cult leaders, and you'll defeat them in boss battles.
DESTROY THE NON-BELIEVERSExplore a sprawling, randomly generated world, fight off hordes of enemies and defeat rival cult leaders in order to absorb their power and assert your cult's dominance.

Being a successful cult leader in Cult of the Lamb ultimately comes down to maintaining the Faith of your followers. When the Faith level of your cult drops too low, the stability of your cult will begin to collapse. This guide will explain how to raise Faith in Cult of the Lamb and ensure that your flock remains loyal to you.
Once per day, cult leaders can give blessings to each of their followers to earn Faith and enhance their loyalty. To bless a follower, interact with one of your followers and select the icon to make demands of them. Next, select Give Blessing, indicated by the hand icon. Blessings are worth +5 Faith per follower.
Your followers will begin to lose Faith in you if you fail to provide them with the basic necessities for living. You will need to keep your followers fed and ensure they each have a bed to sleep in. The quality of the food and sleeping quarters will also impact Faith. Sick, starving followers and broken beds will quickly lead to a loss of Faith amongst your cult members. Make sure to cook food and repair beds daily to ensure the needs of your followers are met.
There are five weapon archetypes in Cult of the Lamb, but the axe and gauntlets are the two best in the game. Even though the sword and dagger have fast attack speed, their lack of damage and range can make taking on multiple targets quite difficult. Inversely, the hammer hits like a truck but the long wind up makes it impractical against most fast-moving enemies.
Released in the summer of 2022, Cult of the Lamb blends cutesy visuals and ultra-dark humor in its tale of a young lamb who, having seemingly had their life saved by a sinister deity, goes about preaching the word of this supposed savior and building an ever-growing cult around its teachings. Cult of the Lamb would itself amass a huge fan following, eventually making its way onto several Game of the Year nomination lists, (including our own), and even taking home several gongs at the Australian Game Developer Awards.
Your older followers should be of higher rank too, meaning you'll earn even better rewards if you sacrifice or ascend them. You won't even have to bury their bodies, so there's no need to build a burial pit either! With the right doctrine, you could even turn their sacrifice into a chance for your cult to engage in some cannabilism for free food. No one's saying you have to make your Cult into cannibals, but hey, it's an option.
Parents need to know Cult of the Lamb is a downloadable action/adventure and simulation game with religious themes for Windows PCs. Players take on the role of an anthropomorphized sheep who is saved from sacrifice only to become a cult leader who does the bidding of its god. The lamb is commanded to battle fantasy creatures and recruit animal followers to increase devotion and grow the power of its master. Presentation is cartoonish, and the story is darkly comic, at times skewering the notion of organized belief systems and faith. The cult leader must be both kind and cruel, feeding and rewarding the faithful but also brainwashing, punishing, and even sacrificing the cult's followers in order to achieve objectives. Combat takes place in randomly generated dungeon rooms and is presented from a top down perspective, showing the player's character fighting small fantastical monsters with swords, axes, and magic such as tentacles and earthquakes. Enemies typically fall and disappear once killed, but red blood is briefly visible in some scenes. Success can be challenging to achieve, though players can easily ramp down difficulty to make the game much more accessible. 041b061a72
